UPDATE | Kapot wiellager zorgt voor urenlang stremming op N33 Gieterveen / Gieten (video berging)
Herman © Van Oost Media Vanwege brand in een autotransporter vol auto’s is de N33 tussen Gieten en Gieterveen deels afgesloten. De weg richting Veendam is weer open, alleen richting Assen is nog één rijstrook afgesloten.
Rijkswaterstaat heeft volgens eigen zeggen de rijbanen sneller vrij kunnen geven dan verwacht.
Bij de brand raakten vier nieuwe auto’s beschadigd. De autotransporter was onderweg van Duitsland naar Frankrijk. Ook raakte een achterop komende auto beschadigd doordat die over brokstukken van het wiellager heen reed.
Door het kapotte wiellager raakten de wielen oververhit en vatte zodoende vlam.
De berging van de autotransporter kan volgens Rijkswaterstaat nog wel enkele tijd in beslag nemen.
Berger Willem Keizer uit Stadskanaal heeft de autotransporter geborgen en berger Hamstra de personenauto.
Doordat het verkeer door Gieten heen moest in de ochtendspits gaf dit een behoorlijke drukte.
Rijkswaterstaat meldt in een tweet dat de N33 richting Assen weer volledig vrij is gegeven rond 12.00 uur
